"October airfares, responding to the unprecedented decline in passenger traffic, fell 19 percent for the second month in a row. That drop in October ticket prices, coupled with a passenger-traffic decline of 23 percent, resulted in revenues falling by 38 percent," said ATA Chief Economist David Swierenga. "It is clear that carriers would not have been able to cut their costs to match the 38 percent decline in domestic revenues."
