Looks like a bomb threat according to http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/2001...lane_dc_3.html

DETROIT (Reuters)- A Northwest Airlines passenger plane that took off from Washington was diverted to Detroit on Thursday under U.S. military jet escort after its pilot reported a security problem.

FBI (news - web sites) spokesman Terry Booth said the incident was triggered by ``a note threatening a bomb'' that a passenger discovered in a magazine tucked into one of the Airbus A320's seats.

We never seem to see any resolution to any of these issues, which is pretty frustrating to me.

Every few days, we see some kind of threat like this in the news and then never hear about it again.

It doesn't really seem like anything organized, though. I guess there's not much to report about deranged individuals.

Minimally, it'd be nice if my suspicions were confirmed.

Includes list of other similar events this week.

MSNBC: Passenger finds threat in magazine pouch; no bomb on plane

Quote:
PASSENGERS WERE TAKEN off the plane, an Airbus A320, airline spokeswoman Mary Beth Schubert said. The plane had 73 passengers and a crew of five.
A passenger “was thumbing through the magazine pouch and reads a note indicating that there was a bomb on the plane,” FBI Special Agent Hank Glaspie said.
The note then was turned over from a flight attendant to the captain, who was directed to land the plane at the nearest airport, Glaspie said.
Federal agencies were at the airport conducting an investigation, which included interviewing passengers and crew members, he said.
