Thanksgiving Air Travel in U.S. to Drop Sharply-AAA

Quote:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Airline industry hopes for a rebound for Thanksgiving received a sharp blow on Thursday as a leading travel industry association projected a significant drop in air travel during the holiday period compared with demand last year.

The forecast, by the American Automobile Association (AAA), illustrates the major difficulties U.S. airlines are having attracting customers since the Sept. 11 attacks -- even, it appears, during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

US airlines gear up for what should be the busiest weekend of their year, but it is unclear if passengers will still want to travel.

I'm driving to Houston from AUS.

Where are you staying in Houston?

US airlines see Thanksgiving traffic off 15-20 pct

Quote:
CHICAGO, Nov 15 (Reuters) - U.S. air passenger traffic is expected to be down 15 to 20 percent for the Thanksgiving holiday from a year ago, the chief economist for the Air Transport Association said on Thursday.
Airlines have cut about 20% of their flights, so it seems to work out pretty well. They certainly couldn't handle the load from last year, so I don't see what the big upset is is about.
