credit card fraud Toronto

Please be aware of this.We have returned from Toront where we used our credit card to pay for a meal in a restaurant in Toronto and for car hire. When we returned our bill showed us that we had bought a 3 piece suite in Calgary,a months grocery shopping and filled the car up for a week!!!! Visa put a stop on the card and contacted us which i thought was good service by them. The refunds were made but the only time the card was out of our sight was when it was taken off at the restaurant and car hire depot. Always have your card in sight.

There has also been a lot of debit card scams in toronto, so you have to watch your money! But the truth is this sort of thing happens everywhere and Toronto is not even a leader of credit card scams. You could use a travel debit card to safely take money with you where-ever you go, but you have to watch for high fees and interest rates on money advances. The bottom line is taht you always have to watch your money and if you travel make sure your financial intitution is liable for fraud of this type.
Sorry to hear about your story.

Thanks for the warning. I wonder if this is the same group of people running the scam there.

Have any of you ever heard of National Merchant Bancard? I have heard from a few people it is a scam, but some people say it is safer to use than Paypal. What do you think?
