FORT WORTH , Texas -(Dow Jones)- AMR Corp. (NYSE: AMR - News) 's American Airlines is expanding its buyAAmiles and giftAAmiles programs to AAdvantage Travel Awards Program members worldwide.

In a press release Tuesday, the carrier said that previously, only AAdvantage members in the U.S. and Canada could purchase frequent-flier miles online for themselves, friends and family members through the two programs.

Under the buyAAmiles program, AAdvantage members may purchase up to 15,000 miles per calendar year for their AAdvantage account. The giftAAmiles program lets AAdvantage members purchase up to 15,000 AAdvantage miles a year to give as a gift, and the miles are in addition to the miles a member may purchase through the buyAAmiles program.
