Free Upgrade

The other day I recently received a complimentary, one-way upgrade from AA. This came as a shock to me for two reasons, first of all I have not flown AA in a conservative 3 to 4 years, and it didn’t come with ads or offers, it was just a piece of paper. Has anyone else received one of these?
