Update:
I tried it on 11/9/2001 and was denied. Not only did the agent refuse to do it, but he was quite rude about it, even though I was friendly and approached it with a smile. He approached it with, “Are you first class?” as I left the line and walked up to the ticket counter. I very clearly explained what I was trying to do when I approached him, but he responded with a “yeah, yeah” and completely ignored what I said as if I was an idiot that was wasting his time. He assumed I was flying AUS-ATL-SFO on DL. He insisted that they didn’t have a 8:20 flight. I explained it very clearly a second time. This time, he points out that he doesn’t have me on any flight AUS-ATL this evening. I explained it very clearly a third time. The little gears in his head started turning. He asked for my Skymiles card. I handed it to him; he did some typing, and then stated, “You can’t do that. I can’t do that. Nobody can do that. You have to check in at the airport that you’re departing from. I don’t care how you’re getting there, but I, uh, uh, you, nobody can do that. Okay?” I thanked him and left the DL ticket counter. |
