Is it possible to check-in early at an open Delta ticket counter for an upcoming flight at an airport different than the one that you're departing from?

I'll be departing from my actual origin ~6 hours before my Delta segment is scheduled to depart with about 1000mi inbetween the airports.

So, basically, my two questions are:
  • Are there time limitations on how early you can check in? Are those strictly enforced?
  • Can you check-in from a different airport than you're departing from?

Thanks.

Daniel

Not a connecting flight. Two seperate tickets/reservations on different non-partner carriers.

Why? If I have a connecting flight, they clearly have the capability to provide me with a boarding pass for a flight depating from an airport other than the one where they work.
