Northwort experience from my brother

Just want you guys' input on
My brother just experienced a Xmas nightmare traveling with NW.
He was suppose to be on the 23rd SJC-MSP-IAH. Arrived at the airport 4 hrs prior with a confirmed reservation made in Sept. Check-in agent told him that he had a standby tkt and at the end...he did not make the flight and was offered to fly the next morning flight at 6:45am, he got up at 3 am and finally was about to board when the gate agent forced him to check-in his carry-on luggage....as a very inexperienced traveler, he complied...and when he arrived @IAH...he and I waited at the baggage claim area for almost an hour and finally NW delcared that his carry-on bag was lost! The baggage still haven't arrived....

I can't believe that they bumped my brother involuntarily with a confirmed tkt...after calling them we found out that there was absolute no reason for that kind of thing to happen!
