(CHICAGO) October 5, 2001 -- United Airlines confirmed today that it has submitted engineering designs to the Federal Aviation Administration for new cockpit security bars in compliance with the FAA's new guidelines. United will have security bars in place on its entire operating fleet by October 21, or sooner. United was one of the first airlines to announce that it would reinforce cockpit doors following the September 11 attacks on the United States.
