CHICAGO (AP) -- After resolving a long-festering dispute with its mechanics, United Airlines says it sees "light at the end of the tunnel" but faces the prospect of an even tougher labor battle ahead when it seeks companywide pay cuts.

The nation's second-largest carrier edged close to a settlement Wednesday with its 23,000 ramp workers and public contact workers, after mechanics and aircraft cleaners approved a new five-year contract the previous day.
