Nissan Z

Has anyone seen the new Nissan 350Z yet? Those ads really look cool, and I am so happy that Nissan finally brought the Z back after is hiatus. The “track” version looks very tempting.

It is sad how many great cars don’t come to the U.S. because we are not viewed as a performance car market. I still miss the RX-7, which, by the way, is still being made.

Anyone else feel the same way about discontinued cars?

It'd be great if more were available here, but I don't think that Nissan had a great track (no pun intended) record as far as quality goes in the US.

One problem with selling more expensive sports cars with a regular brand (Mazda RX7, Toyota MR2 Spyder) is that you end up dealing with a lower caliber dealership and service department than you otherwise would be if you bought from a more traditional sports car manufacturer.

That's the only thing that's keeping me from the 350Z. It looks incredibly good (both appearance and stats) and the price is really attractive.

I still like the old 300zx cars, but will admit that the new Z looks great, but I'd like to get behind the wheel of one. The dealers around here can't get them in fast enough, apparently. Might have to put one of those on the birthday list...

Heh, I clicked on the Nissan link in the first post, and immediately thought "Eclipse!". That's just the front fender speaking, obviously the rest of it is different.

It looks vaguely Porsche/AudiTT-like from the side.

Looks like fun. Anybody find out what the curb weight is?

3200lbs, give or take about 50lbs since it varies based on the specific model. It's a pretty heavy beast.

Yeah, 3200 pounds is kind of hefty. With all their talk about aluminum on the nissan web site, you'd think they would have been able to shave that down a bit.

But then again, my problem is I compare everything to the NSX.

so the latest rumors are that the April/May 2003 date for the convertible Z has been pushed back to at least Fall 2003. sigh.

Although I've now seen several on the road in Austin and keep on drooling... it's a Z for God's sake!
