I have heard bad things about the quality of the sound from the Archos. That's really the only reason I've stayed away.

My always packed travel pack contains:

RioVolt MP3CD/CD Player
Bose Quiet Comfort Headphones
Casio E-500 PDA (w/ Pharos GPS module packed in luggage)
Vintage 1980s Mattel Handheld Footbal with the speaker sealed to avoid noise
