Laptop on board

Hey. I´m about to make my first trip overseas with my laptop. What all do I need to know, how to protect it from thieves, how to get it through the gates undamaged etc? Am I allowed to use it on board? I heard that I should have the battery charged in order to be able to start it up if asked, what if it´s not charged? Please tell me as much as you can b/c I´m so excited with my new laptop.

Don't leave it unattended or it will be stolen, so keep it by your side.

You should get a bag for it to travel in or a padded briefcase to prevent it from taking any hard hits.

You don't mention what country you're in, but in the US you have to take it out of your bag and run it through the x-ray machine separately.

You can use it on board when you're advised that you can use electronic devices (over 10kft).

Since you mention going overseas, I recommend checking to make sure that you have the right power adapters.
