AirTran Airways rebounded sharply in on-time performance in March, following a dismal February.

The discount airline had the industry's fourth-best on-time rate for the month, at 79.9 percent. A month earlier it was 15th out of 19 airlines in the U.S. Department of Transportation's monthly report.

Delta Air Lines was sixth in March, up from eighth a month earlier, while regional affiliates ASA and Comair were 10th and second, respectively.

AirTran had the second-lowest rate of lost luggage, while Delta was 11th and Comair 16th.
