AirTran Airways Reports Record June, Quarter Traffic
ORLANDO, Fla., July 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: AAI), today reported record traffic for both the month of June and the second quarter 2004. The airline also set a passenger enplanement record in June with more than 1.16 million passengers served -- the highest number in the airline's eleven-year history. AirTran Airways' traffic, measured by revenue passenger miles (RPMs), grew by 19.0 percent, to over 739 million RPMs, on an increase of 14.5 percent in capacity, based on available seat miles (ASMs). June's load factor reached 77.3 percent, compared to 74.4 percent in June 2003. The airline enplaned 1,164,332 passengers in the month of June, a 12.7 percent increase from June 2003, and an all-time record. For the second quarter of 2004, traffic grew by 21.4 percent on an increase of 17.9 percent in capacity as compared to the second quarter of 2003. Load factor for the second quarter was 75.4 percent. Year-to-date 2004 traffic grew 21.9 percent on a capacity increase of 19.4 percent while load factor was 72.0 percent. The airline served a record 3.42 million customers, up 15.7 percent over second quarter 2003. For the first six months of this year, more than 6.4 million customers were served, an increase of 16.0 percent over the first six months of 2003.
