Do we have any GA aircraft owners out there?

I've been debating the benefits of renting vs. owning (with a group of 3-4 people to share expenses).

Ownership takes on a number of fixed costs, such as insurance, annual maintenance expenses, hanger rental, and of course the aircraft itself. In addition, I've heard to expect to spend about $40/hr on other expenses such as engine overhauls, oil changes, other regular maintenance, and unexpected expenses. The big benefit is having an aircraft almost anytime you want it, for as long as you want it (provided your other friends/partners don't need it).

On the other hand, a renter pays only ~$100/hr, but has to deal with schedules and time constraints.

Anyone else have any thoughts?
