View Full Version : Correct "side" of the plane?

I always sit on the left side of the aircraft. Usually in the aisle seat. Whenever I select a seat, it's always the left. This is true for over 95% of my travel.

I was recently assigned 2E for an upcoming 700mi flight. 2E on a Continental narrowbody is the aisle seat on the right side. For some reason, it's very distressing to me.

I know I'm crazy -- but is anyone else here crazy in the same way?

No one is anywhere close to that crazy.

I don't have this at all. I don't have an affinity for any specific seat location. The rare occassions when I get stuck waaaaaay in the back of a plane, though, feel really odd to me.

I agree with Nugget. There's the perennial discussion of window or aisle seat, and everyone hates sitting in the back of the plane, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone express an affinity for one side of the plane over the other. My advice: enjoy first class drink service and down a few until you get over it.

Another issue - does anyone else find sitting backwards on Southwest flights to be odd?

I really don’t have a seat preference, but on long flights, I usually end up sleeping, and when I do, I like to rest my head on something, most likely the side of the plane. If that is the matter, I like the right side of the plane, and I sleep better leaning to the right. How’s that for crazy.

On the Southwest matter, I like looking back on every single person on the flight.

I actually check weather info of the departing and arriving cities, so I can try to figure out from which side the plane will approach the city.

Then I go to the CO website and change my seat reservation so I will have a window seat on the side of the plane where I can see the city.

I like the aerial view of cities. I made quite some nice pictures of for instance Austin (http://ivo.nu/photos/novartis-feb2002/austin2) and Manhattan (http://ivo.nu/photos/vacation-nov2001/43_manhattan) (without Twin Towers....)

Great pictures! I'm sure that you were above 10,000ft when you were taking the pictures with your digital camera, right? :P

How accurate are you at predicting which way the plane will come in?

What, a digital camera is an 'electronic device'? I didn't know that.... :)

By the way, usually wind directions don't change much (usually W/SW in the US), so usually a plane takes off/lands from the N/NE direction. Works most of the time.

I like window seats. Easier for sleeping with your head against the sidewall, and you have something to look at when you're bored.

Definately left; it's the pilots side for a reason, it's just better (tm).

I thought this thread was about the appropriateness of starboard/port naming conventions
