Passengers can get their boarding passes and proceed directly to the gate. It's available from 6 hours before the flight departs.

Good news that US continues to push forward with these projects.
I like the idea of being able to check in from home, although I've never been successful in checking in with northwest using their online checkin system.
Looks like continental is trailing pretty far behind on this one, although they've promised it.

How come you've had trouble checking in online with NW? Do you know when Continental plans on starting online check-in?

I'm not holding my breath. The Continental website is consistently years behind the online offerings from other airlines.
I'm guess I'm still really spoiled from my years of living in Delta country (BHM). Delta's website then was leagues ahead of what Continental offers today.

It's good that U.S. is moving forward with this. When I flew U.S. from Tallahassee, Florida to Washington Dulles back in December, they didn't have this feature. I would have liked to use it.
From a passenger standpoint, is it easier to use web check-in when you have baggage to check in? I will be flying with Northwest in a month and would like to explore using their web check-in services.
