I have noticed from reading some posts at www.flyertalk.com that there is such a thing a elite challanges. Does Continental Airlines have one and if so, how would one enroll in it?

No, Continental doesn't. They'll likely comp your elite status from another major airline (besides northwest) if you ask nicely and mail a copy of your elite card and recent statement.
