You can get a hotel in Bangkok with A/C, hot water and private toilet/shower starting around 600 baht. The more you pay the more little things you get until you get more "stuff" than you will ever use! You can get rooms over 6000 baht per night. A room that is around 1000 to 2000 baht is not that bad unless you are quite fussy!

If you want a hotel recommendation mention your price range for one night.

My advice is to get a hotel near the Skytrain route so you can use that overhead rail service.

There is a high season and a low season for hotel pricing. High season will start late November and last until around the end of March. Close to Christmas and New Years holidays will have the highest prices. Expensive luxury hotels raise their prices the most, small hotels in the 600-1000 baht range raise their price by maybe 100 to 200 baht. Christmas and New Years they always tack on some surcharges for holiday parties.
