CHICAGO (CBS.MW) - One out of every 10 airline industry jobs went by the wayside last year as the major carriers responded to the sharp decline in traffic after terrorists attacked the U.S. on Sept. 11.
In a year roiled with huge deficits and reduced capacity, the nation's 12 largest airlines ended the year with 64,227 fewer positions for a total of 456,195, according to the annual figures compiled by the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
