SYDNEY, June 5 (Reuters) - Richard Branson's Virgin Blue said on Wednesday it would kick off its first code share with UAL Corp's (NYSE:UAL - News) United Airlines, as Star Alliance members strive to fill the void left by Ansett Australia's collapse.
Virgin Blue now hopes it can entice other Star members into similar deals which would boost the discount carrier's access to international passenger flows and further challenge the dominance of OneWorld alliance rival Qantas Airways Ltd (Australia:QAN.AX - News).
