China travel agency says tourism dampened by attacks

BEIJING, China (Reuters) -- China International Travel Service (CITS), the nation's biggest travel agency, lost 100 million yuan ($12 million) in revenues because of the September 11 attacks on the United States, a top official said on Monday.

Some 30,000 international tourists cancelled trips booked through the agency after attacks by hijacked planes on New York and Washington, CITS chairman Li Lu'an said.

"The September 11 attacks had a very strong impact on our business," he told a news conference to mark the launch of a business travel services venture with American Express.
