Continental Air Relaxes Cell Phone Usage Rules

HOUSTON (Dow Jones)--Continental Airlines Inc. will soon allow customers to communicate via their cellphones sooner after an aircraft lands at its intended destination.

In a press release Monday, the air carrier said that effective Monday, cell phone usage will be permitted after landing, after approval from flight attendants.

Great news. I think the ban during taxiing on the outbound is so pax won't be distracted from the safety announcements.

Two U.S. airlines give passengers more phone time

American Airlines (NYSE:AMR - News) and Continental Airlines (NYSE:CAL - News) rolled out new polices on cell phone use that allow passengers a few extra minutes to make their calls. From Tuesday, passengers on those carriers can make calls, or use two-way pagers, just after their plane lands, instead of waiting for it to arrive at the gate.
