NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Gordon Bethune, chairman and chief executive of Continental Airlines Inc. , Wednesday urged for the creation of an aviation security system that assures safety and doesn't hinder air travel.
"We've got a huge bureaucracy in this country...that adds another layer of cost, another layer of complexity to our business," Gordon said at a Merrill Lynch transportation conference in New York .
"We need a system that works, that is safe" and that doesn't make air travel so cumbersome that no one wants to fly, the executive said.
"We need to put our money into security measures that actually have a return on investments," Gordon said.
