Crew Restrains Passenger Attempting to Enter Cockpit

Quote:
A reinforced cockpit door and the quick actions of a United flight crew stopped a passenger from forcing his way into the cockpit on a flight en route to Buenos Aires Feb. 6.

Halfway through Flight 855 between Miami and Buenos a passenger in the United Economy(r) cabin forcibly attempted to breach the locked cockpit door. The reinforcements on the door kept the passenger from breaking through entirely and allowed the crew time to stop him. The man, who was injured in the attempt, was restrained for the remainder of the flight and provided with medical attention. On arrival in Buenos Aires, he was immediately turned over to local authorities, who placed him under arrest.

United must have used a beefier cockpit door reinforcment than Continental has, because I can't imagine the Continental one stopping anyone determined.

He said he and other passengers jumped on the man, and the plane's co-pilot then hit the man "bluntly on the head" with the ax.

"This led to a lot of blood all over the place," Boyer said. He said the man then was dragged out of the cockpit and restrained.
