FAA Lifts Flight Ban Over Chicago

No-fly zones was established over the downtowns of several major cities after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Chicago's restriction, which expired this week after a previous extension, was the last small planes ban covering a downtown area except for Washington's.

Has anyone been adversely affected by this?

No, not at all. I flew into Meigs on 11-1-01, and it was never an issue. The TFR was basically only over the downtown buildings, and I can't see why you'd *ever* have a reason to fly right over downtown.

I'm pretty sure that domestic traffic rarely if ever flys over downtown for ORD or MDW, so most people were probably un-affected. This would have had some impact on general aviation though, especially flights in or out of CGX (http://www.airnav.com/airport/CGX). I've flown over downtown in light aircraft a few times; it's pretty neat. I'm glad to hear that they've lifted the ban, even if I am 1200 miles away.
