Luggage for a post-Sept. 11 world

Luggage for a post-Sept. 11 world

Quote:
April 13 — Some frequent flyers would argue that the real terrorism of travel right now is just getting through the airports, and that trauma is compounded if you happen to have any check-in luggage, anything even resembling a sharp object, or if you’re not at the airport in plenty of time to stand in the world’s longest lines.

I'm waiting for someone to come up with a "quick-release" laptop case that will let me easily pull out my laptop for its seperate trip down the luggage carwash at each airport's security checkpoint.

The traditional velcro retaining strap method is quite cumbersome for today's new handling of laptops. I need something where the laptop is in its own, externally-accessable pocket yet still sufficiently padded by the case. That way I can remove and insert it without jumbling all the cables and other miscellany that's also in the case.

My soft-case, leather briefcase has three small dividers and I just put my notebook in the middle one so that it receives some padding from stuff on the outside dividers.

When I have to put it through security, I just drag one zipper over and pull it out -- it's pretty quick.

Then again, my computer is completely falling apart, but I think that's more of a Dell problem.
