San Francisco airport evacuated after explosive found

San Francisco airport evacuated after explosive found on shoes

Quote:
The United Airline domestic terminal at San Francisco International Airport was evacuated for 90 minutes after explosive residue was discovered on a man's shoes, and the man went missing, an airport official said.

Airport spokesman Mike McCarron said flights were held at 30 gates as authorities searched for the suspect. Thousands of passengers who were evacuated from the building were being slowly re-screened by security personnel and allowed back in, he said.

Thousands Evacuated at S.F. Airport

Thousands of passengers were evacuated from San Francisco International Airport for more than two hours Wednesday after security guards detected explosives residue on the shoes of a man who disappeared into the crowd.

A search of the United Airlines terminal failed to find the man, and the terminal was reopened mid-morning, with all passengers being rescreened, said airport spokesman Ron Wilson.

"We've searched the terminal. It's safe and secure," Wilson said. "It's unfortunate that one individual can cause this madness."

The individual who caused the "Madness" was the Argen-not-so-bright moron who let this guy walk away.

They gave him his shoes back and asked him a question. He answered it. If they wanted to detain him, all they had to do was call for one of the National Guardsman.

At what point do we as frequent travellers say enough is enough. These MORONS cannot and should not be considered for Federal Employment status!

I thought that the idea was to hire federal employees to do the job, not to make the contractors federal employees.

Am I misunderstanding the situation?

Not to get too partisan, but the Democrats (Norman is one of them) are pushing to allow for the VAST majority of the existing idiots to be hired into the new program.

They have pushed for the High School Diploma requirement to be dropped, the US Citizen requirement to be dropped and failing that, they have pushed INS to expedite citizenship for the existing morons.

When all is said and done, Moron Minetta will have given us the EXACT same security force at double the cost.

How and why is it that Mineta still has a job, anyway?

After all, he was responsible for security both before and after September 11. How is it that he hasn't been partially blamed?

That's the million dollar question.

If I had to guess, it's the fact that he is the token democrat in W's cabinet. So, why not leave him there to take the blame when the federalized airport screening system fails.

Just my cynical guess.

no explosives

I don't have a source for this information that I can point to, but I did hear about this story on NPR on my way to work this past week.

The man did not have explosives in his shoes, he had fertilizer on them.

He walked across a fertilized lawn before going into the airport and that's what the detector picked up.
