Terror as holiday jet drops 11,000ft in freak storm

Quote:
Holidays were terrified when a charter jet was struck by a severe hailstorm which holed the nose-cone, cracked one of the pilot's windows and dented the fuselage.

The Airbus A321 was cruising at 34,000ft and was one and a half hours from its destination, Manchester Airport, when it ran into the freak conditions over Germany.

Passengers were warned to return to their seats and put on safety belts as the pilot was forced to make a controlled descent to 23,000ft to avoid the worst of the weather.

Sounds like it got pretty ugly up there, but "dropped" and descending 11kft tell a pretty different story.

I can just imagine local news in Austin getting their hands on an idea like this -- "400 pressurized metal tubes dropped 6 miles out of the air into Austin at over 200mph yesterday!"
