White House emptied amid plane fears

The White House was briefly evacuated after a mystery was spotted circling in the restricted airspace above the president's Washington residence.

US officials said a plane going towards Reagan National Airport had not make radio contact with the control towers, and as a precaution Secret Service agents cleared the building.

A senior official said President George W Bush had been in no danger; he had remained at the White House and was not taken to a bunker, Reuters news agency reported.

Good thing that they have F16s to protect the White House. Too bad that they were only 15 minutes late.

What is going to take before they learn? Crashing into the White House and having to rebuild first? This is ridiculous.

The FAA, the military and other agencies have set up tightly restricted no-flight zones over parts of Washington, New York and other areas of the country after the Sept. 11 attacks in which hijackers crashed airliners into buildings, killing more than 3,000 people.

Tightly restricted, what a joke. At least the president is protecting himself as well as he's protecting the rest of us.
