Continental Air posts loss, may defer plane orders

Continental Air posts loss, may defer plane orders

Quote:
NEW YORK, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Continental Airlines Inc. (NYSE:CAL - news), the fifth-largest U.S. carrier, on Wednesday reported a $149 million fourth-quarter loss, as the lingering travel slump after the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States and the weak economy eroded its revenues.

Did you notice that they are deferring Boeing Orders, but not Embraer orders?

Pretty soon, CO will be an all RJ, all the time airline.

Well, it's actually Continental Express that's buying the ERJs and they're likely in a different financial situation. Those jets are cheaper, too.

Until they spin COEX off on it's own, it's the same airline. These RJ's are there for a specific purpose. Gordon has a plan for the upcoming Pilot Contract talks and it ain't going to be pretty.
