CHANGES TO THE MEDALLION PROGRAM

Delta's recent changes have sparked quite a commotion between all the current medallion members. I recently found a site that I think would interest medallion members who are not familiar with the current changes. According to the website, Delta's changes will make their elite program uncompetitive with other airlines and to some degree, make it worse. Read more at the website.

If you don't like the new changes then sign the petition at this website. If you want to stop flying Delta all together than I suggest getting your status comped by NW or CO, airlines that care about customers that go out of their way to fly them.

Delta isn't the only one squeezing down.

NW: You can only buy upgrades using miles with a Y or B fare. M,H,Q,V,&K tickets keep you in the back of the bus.

CO: Only Y, H or K class can be upgraded with miles unless you pony up some extra cash.

Yeah, but that won't effect the elite program. Besides, elite members can still upgrade with miles on those fares.

Don't I wish? Tell that to my credit card.

I'm CO Platinum and to upgrade B or V costs me $300 each way plus the miles while Q or T cost me $400 each way plus the miles. When I questioned it I got a really obscure letter back saying it was to "obtain parity" with the more expensive fares.

Turns out it can be less expensive to buy the higher priced fare in the first place.

What seems to work best for me so far is to reserve the cheapest fare/itinerary I can find without regard to the fare basis and then call the Elite line and ask them to modify it to the least expensive fare than can be upgraded without the surcharge.

Could be it's only for International flights. All my flights are International.

Yes, I was talking about flights within the continental US. Why don't you move here?

Before I retired here to paradise I lived on the mainland and flew to every state except Alaska, plus Canada & Mexico.

Is there something new I should know about?
