Beijing at Christmas

Hello,

My friend and i are going to be in Beijing from the 23rd of December to the 3rd of January and were just wondering if anyone had any tips of specific things to do/see? Obviously, we want to visit all the key sites, but were just wondering if anything specific will be happening during the festive season?

Also, we are quite keen to have a "Chinese" lunch on Christmas day - can anyone recommend any restuarants where we will be able to find traditional chinese food (as opposed to Turkey etc that a lot of the hotels appear to be doing)?! We are n ot entirely sure how much will be open on chrismtas day?

Thanks so much in advance!

While there isn't any religious attachment to Christmas in China, if you find yourself here during the Christmas holidays, you will be able to find plenty to do that will help you find a little piece of home. From gala hotel dinners serving turkey, to Christmas concerts, to gingerbread men, you'll be able to find a piece of Christmas in China.

Hello

Beijing New World Department Store has spent 400 thousand yuan (US$51 thousand) to build a huge Christmas tree. The tree is 28 meters high and 16 meters in diameters, making the highest Christmas tree .It is also a good opportunity for hotels and restaurants here to make more money. They have been preparing various activites for this holiday since last May, and now they endeavor to promote their extravagant Christmas meals. The average price for such a meal will be 1,000 yuan ($127.5), and the most luxurious one even 3,688 yuan ($470.2), to be provided by Beijing Landmarks Towers.Lantain, a chef from Beijing Landmarks Towers¡¯ Western-style food kitchen, said that he had prepared more than 100 kinds of food for the Christmas meal. Some people doubt that all these delecacies can be worth thousands of yuan. In fact, people¡¯s spending will also include the cost of a Christmas party, held by organziers of Christmas meals.Yan Jie, a senior executive from Beijing Landmarks Towers, reveals that they have invited many renowned artists like Guo Degang and Yu Qian to perform traditional cross talks in the Christmas party. According to her, a combination of traditional Chinese and Western cultures will attract more people.

Thanks
