Can't view forum pages in Netscape 4.x

Only shows ICQ icons on Netscape 4.08/FreeBSD, Netscape 4.76/FreeBSD, Netscape 4/Windows under any forum post.

the glib answer...

The glib answer is that you really ought to be using mozilla by now. It's been a suitable replacement for NS4.7 since at least version 0.9.4, and if you build it from ports with --disable-mailnews and --disable-editor defined in the port Makefile it's actually pretty lean. (well, as lean as you can hope to expect).

phpBB generates some pretty messy html, and it (like many other sites these days) really makes good use of CSS which NS4 can't cope with well at all. I'll take a look and see if it's something simple, though.

I run Netscrape v4.x on Sol 7 and up, and have never been able to see anything other than ICQ images.

Well if you are doing this from work and they only have Netscape 4.5 4.7 or there abouts it makes a good point to keep those for whatever they are doing. However, you should point out that many new languages today used for writing webpages cannot be handled by this. Noone says they have to get rid of these. But either Mozilla or Opera would be 2 good substitutes that do not require a license. Tell them to compete they do need to keep up with the times.

Of course, if you don't need all the extras that Mozilla offers, Phoenix is a great solution as well.

That being said, it's not completely the fault of phpBB that Netscape users can not use the ITYT forums. I run phpBB that Netscape 4.7x can use and see fine.

Finally, if you must use Netscape 4.x, try upgrading to 4.8 and see if that helps any. I can browse the forums fairly well with it. When I first load an individual thread it sometimes show only the ICQ icons. But if I hit reload, it usually brings the thread up.
