For some time now we have tried to avoid "normal" hotels and resorts, preferring to stay in a holiday house wherever possible. We have really enjoyed our experiences doing this in France, the UK and Bali.
__________________We have just come back from a stay at a place called Gecko Villa (Gecko Villa Thailand house, vacation accommodation, pool, holiday rent), in Thailand's Northeast and highly recommend it - we had a very enjoyable stay! In particular, the way we were looked after and taken car of during our trip really made our holiday: instead of taking over an older "second" house (often the pitfall with rentals), we had this large house and its private pool to ourselves, whilst the owners, who lived a few kms away, were on hand to cook delicious Thai meals for us, look after the property (and do our laundry!) all at no additional cost. We also got the impression that they were very pleased to show us the local area and integrate us into village life. So, not a normal hotel, and not really a normal home rent, and not a homestay...but a memorable amlagamation of them all! Also, if in Thailand, be aware that there are two mian airports in Bangkok (watch out on connections!) and that the local discount carriers are half the price of Thai Airways..and in our opinion just as good for a short flight. |
