Get Through the Airport Faster with New Technology

Get Through the Airport Faster with New Technology

Quote:
Dear Mr Baker,

British Airways is continuously striving to improve your experience at
airports. As part of this drive to provide service excellence, British
Airways has joined an IATA* working group focusing on simplifying the
passenger journey - Simplifying Passenger Travel (SPT) Interest Group.

As one of our valued Executive Club members who regularly travels to
the United Kingdom, the SPT Interest Group would like to invite you to
apply to participate in an upcoming trial of iris recognition
technology to speed you through immigration at London's Heathrow
Airport, Terminals 3 and 4.

The trial is being conducted by the United Kingdom members of the SPT
Interest Group, namely British Airport Authority, British Airways, HM
Customs and Excise, United Kingdom Immigration Service (UKIS) and
Virgin Atlantic Airways, supported by EyeTicket Corporation.

The trial will conclude on June 30, 2002. Once you have successfully
registered for the trial, you will be able to enter the UK in seconds
using a dedicated site within the Immigration Hall. You will simply
need to look into a camera, which will verify your identity from your
iris pattern.

Please note this trial is only open to persons who are not European
Economic Area citizens and who do not require a visa for the United
Kingdom. To be eligible to apply to take part in the trial you must:
* Have a passport that is valid for the duration of the trial.
* Be a frequent visitor to the UK; the latest UK entry stamp in your
passport should contain the wording "leave to enter for 6 months,
employment prohibited".

Note: Persons who are resident or temporarily resident in the UK,
including holders of work permits, are not eligible.

If you would like to apply to participate in the trial, please follow
these three easy steps:
1. Enrollment Application
To complete a Simplifying Passenger Travel enrollment form online,
[2]click here.
Your application will be processed by the UKIS who will hold your
personal details for the duration of the trial. You will be
advised within seven days as to whether your enrollment has been
approved.
Please ensure all your details are correct as any errors may lead
to your exclusion from the trial.
2. Registration
Once you have received your Immigration approval letter from UKIS
you can register at Heathrow's Terminal 3 or 4 when you next
travel to the UK between January 31, 2002, and March 31, 2002.
Please ensure you bring your approval letter and passport with you
to the registration station at Heathrow. Registration using
EyeTicket's JetStream iris recognition technology is a perfectly
safe procedure, and will take just a few minutes of your time. For
more information on the trial and registration procedure [3]click
here.
3. Feedback
Towards the end of the trial, we will send you a survey, which we
would be grateful if you could complete and return. Your feedback
on this trial will be invaluable to the future of Simplifying
Passenger Travel.
Please note this invitation is personal to you, and must not be
passed on to anyone else. You will still be required to carry your
passport with you at all times when travelling to the United
Kingdom.

Yours sincerely,

William Harford
