I lost my luggage!

Has anyone else ever had their luggage taken by accident off the luggage belt?!
i was studying abroad in London, my first time abroad, and when I got off my flight I waited for hours for my luggage to come off the belt. But it never did.
I finally had to take the last suitcase that was left on the belt, after 3 hours of waiting around, and took the risk that the woman whose suitcase I had perhaps had my suitcase.
So I had to trek across London to the hotel the woman was staying at, and luckily she had my suitcase! She didnt even apologise for her mistake, I was so mad but had to stay polite!
Anyway I guess I learned the hard way that you have to personalise your luggage. Since then I travelled with a large duct tape "X" across the whole front of my suitcase.
However I have now heard about a new luggage personalisation service who can take any image or text you want and create a quality canvas label to distinguish your luggage. Or you can choose one of their images, I got my mum a cool coral image, perfect for her trip to Mexico in March!
Check it out, www.idclarity.com and see what you think.
I just hope that noone has to go through the stress that i went through that time in London. I didnt realise until then how valuable the contents of your suitcase actually are!
Happy travelling

Re: I lost my luggage!

I know how you feel. Went to Mexico recently and took a flight On Mexicana airlines, seen alot of people loose there luggage....Got to wounder if it might be a second buisness going on. Airgorilla.com + Mexicana Airlines = Disaster! Learned the hard way, but Mexico and the people were awesome! Going back soon, but will be looking for more reliabilty in getting there.

Re: I lost my luggage!

We lost our baggage several years ago. Our bag looked like another, and it was mistakenly taken by a business person who therefore got our holiday clothes and left her business attire behind. Our bag took a trip halfway around the world before authorities found it. We were one week without, for a 2 week holiday.

We solved the problem by stenciling the first initial of our last name on both sides of our checked bags. We created our own 10 inch stencil using ordinary cardboard, and then spray painted the letter in white onto our black bag. It doesn't look bad; actually, I think it just looks like we know what we're doing. Every trip we take now the people at the check-in counters are very impressed. We implemented this strategy over 10 years ago, and I am amazed that I have only seen 2 other families who are doing this. This approach is not subtle, but I don't want subtle at a large crowded airport.

Our other strategy is to always use 2 bags (we're 2 people) and pack half of each person's wardrobe in each bag. In the unlikely scenario, now, where one of our bags would go astray, we would have some clothes onhand. If you do this, be sure to keep "outfits" together in the same bag.

Good luck.

Re: I lost my luggage!

I wouldnt mind losing my luggage so long as the person who picked up my bag by mistake returned the bag but ironed my clothes first...

Re: I lost my luggage!

One simple thing that I do to personalize my luggage is I tie a bright colored ribbon to the handles of each piece. The brighter and crazier the color, the better. Works like a charm.

Re: I lost my luggage!

My partner does that when we travel - gets me some strange looks when I pull a bag from the belt which has a shocking pink bow tied to it, but thats what I get for being a gentleman and carrying her bags for her. I think she actually enjoys it though....
