Ice Storm Closes YYZ

Heavy Freezing rain, ice pellets and rain which began mid afternoon April 3rd, continued all day Apr 04. At approx 1000 hrs, the Central deicing facility ran out of deicing fluid, causing shipments to be imported on an emergency basis from as far away as Chicago and New Jersey. All Air Canada flights to and from YYZ to destinations in North America have been cancelled as well as United and US Airways. The storm should clear the region by late Apr 05. The lack of deicing fluid promted some interesting conversations between front end crews and the decing facilities.
