| Marriot vs. Starwood
Here's an interesting decision: I will be living in a hotel during the week for the next 45-50 weeks. How do I maximize my points, and with which program?
__________________I have a choice between Sheraton (Starwood), Courtyard Marriot, or Residence Inn Marriot, and I can switch between them. I have heard Starwood is a much better program. However, Marriot has a pretty good visa double points promotion thru Jan 31. Starwood also has a 2000 bonus point promotion thru the end of the year. In addition, I will likely try to get either a Marriot or Starwood credit card to boost my points. Assumptions: -Marriot visa double points thru Jan 31 -Starwood 2000 point bonus with 3 stays by Dec 31 -Either Marriot or Starwood credit card -1 level of status -Committing to 1 hotel for the next 45 weeks Marriot Courtyard: 251,829 points Marriot Residence Inn: 212,340 points Combination of Courtyard and Residence Inn: 230,729 Starwood (Sheraton): 82,250 points If I go Marriot, I may go with the combination (to maximize points but also enjoy the luxury of a kitchen and ability to leave belongings over the weekend) Given that Starwood is a better program, which way should I go? |

Why are you staying in a hotel during the week for nearly a year?
