Non-refundable vs. military deployment

I was set to travel to see friends in NYC, but he is being deployed the week I am to arrive. Any chance the airline might change my reservation without the $100 fee?

depends on who u know!

i usually keep calling back until i get a nice operator. just mention the situation and see what their immediate response is. if it doesn't seem helpful, thank them, hang up and call right back. you'll get a different operator. i think they can make those changes with no fee, but it's up to what kinda mood their in, and how good you can be with people on the phone.

hope that helps.

What happened...

They didn't care. I got charged the $100 fee.

I tried, but the agent actually helped me out by finding a ticket (I tried and couldn't) that cost exactly the same rate, so I only had to pay the $100, not $100 plus a heftier flight cost.

So, all in all, I only got screwed a little.
