Keep in mind that in the US they do have pharmacies, supermarkets and malls if you run out of stuff on your list. If you have any medications that are on restricted lists (narcotics or other restricted or controlled drugs) have them in a proper pharmacy container with documentation identifying doctor and drug. Notify your bank back home before you fly if you intend to use a debit or credit card in US ATM's. If you do not notify your bank your ATM withdrawal may be suspected of being fraudulent. Many US ATM's only have 4 digits. In the US the traffic travels on the right hand side of the road. If you come from a country that travels on the left side - look carefully before you cross the road! Electricity in the US is 110 volts. Check how the outlets look for bladed plugs. Most laptops will accommodate 110-220 volts but the plug end may be different. Electricity Around the World Download a copy of your passport and "need to know" emergency data to your computer. You can save that info in an email that you save into memory. Same for travelers check serial numbers. This way if you are separated from your bags or for some reason need critical information you can pull it up from any place you can find a computer. Have copies of your visa stamp pages and data page from your passport. You can also put copies of your itinerary and flight confirmation numbers in email form that you save into memory. In the US public libraries often have computers you can use for free. Also free wifi at libraries and at McDonalds and many other fast food restaurants. Many suitcases and other bags look similar. Make your luggage look distinctive! Be aware that traveling to the US may mean more restrictions on what you can take on to a plane. Pull up a (US) TSA website and see what is permitted. (Check on kirpans if you have one.) Not all countries are the same and the US is a little more jumpy when it comes to planes being taken over! Transportation Security Administration If you are bringing in US currency double check that they are newer printings with the safety strip imbedded in the currency. (Newer printed US currency have "bigger heads.") Have a good time in the US. | |
