| That joyful, spirited drive home from the airport
Does anyone else experience the same effect I do when driving home from the airport after an extended stay elsewhere? Even if I get home late (or worse, early) and I'm dragging and groggy from the flight I find that the drive home from the airport is always spirited and aggressive. After spending a few days or weeks carless, or at the very least relegated to some awful rental car, I'm usually so happy to be back in my own car and on familiar roads that I naturally take advantage of the moment.

I don't, but then again, it could just be that the truck isn't as much fun as your M.

The opposite here. When I drive back, it's usually dark, and I coast back the 20mi to my house, very slowly, preferably with some candlelight radiostation. (95.5 in Austin). Already preparing for immediately hitting the bed as soon as I get home, tired from the trip. |

I usually arrive home at 9:30pm when the traffic is very light. I make good time from Gate 18 to my car so that I don't have to wait in line to pay for parking. I can usually get my luggage loaded and throw the top down in time to still drive away while the other passengers are still walking to their car. Continental's 9:30ish arrival is the first arrival in a while (followed by a bunch of arrivals on every airline), so the airport is practically empty when you touch-down. Top down in the crisp and cool weather is excellent. I scream away from the airport as the jets roar overhead and I look up to see the aircraft in the moments before touchdown. Doesn't take long to get the tires and engine warmed up from a few days of sitting idle. I'm home in no time and with more energy than 15 minutes earlier. |

Usually when I arrive back home from a flight, I'm tired and just want to get home. Since I try to be more careful driving when I'm tired, I don't really go nuts on the drive home. I want to make it the all the way home in one piece.
