Travel Europe advice...

Hope I have the correct thread for this :) This is going to probably seem a bit general but within the next 5-6 months I am looking to travel Europe, most probably via Inter-Rail or something similar, I don't have the driving experience to spend 6-8 weeks driving around Europe.

This is all completely new to me, I am 19 years old and fancy doing something decent/different with my life, working 9-6 all day for the rest of my life doesn't appeal much and Europe is something I would like to see. I am basically at a point where I kind of know what I want to do but don't know where to start so I'll just put down my general thoughts in the hope people can add and point me in the right direction.

First off is for anyone has done this before, how long did it take you to see what you wanted to see? I live in England and am looking to visit most of the core European countries from Spain through to Turkey and possibly even up to Ukraine. I have roughly worked out it will take between 6 and 8 weeks depending on how it goes and what I decide to do in each country. Anyone taken longer/shorter than this to see most of Europe?

Second is funds, basically working full time means the funds ain't going to be a problem but I am still unsure of how much I will realistically need. Staying in hostels isn't something I wanted to do, cheap hotels etc was more what I was thinking of. For 6-8 weeks travelling via Inter-Rail anyone got any ideas or from their own epxerience how much they took with them and what would be a fair amount to save?

I am basically open to any and all suggestions/advice from people with experience of this. Cheers Ali

Finding it easily & in budget...

I would suggest that you also take a look at the reviews at trivago as a guideline to what other travelers think of specific destinations and hotels. You may even want to register for free and add your own reviews as you travel - a splendid opportunity to earn a few Euro whilst helping other travelers (and, off course, to share your photographs with the World!) The trivago database allows you to search hotels according to various criteria, one of which is "budget friendly" - you will find almost 70 000 European hotels rated and reviewed and a huge selection of searchable attractions with links to their homepages.
